Australian Standards 1670.4 & 1851 Section 9 Requires Intelligibility Testing of all EWIS at Commissioning and every 5 years thereafter.
AFE Intelligibility Testing Service is for Sound Systems for Emergency Purposes (SSEP) commonly known as Emergency Warden Intercommunication System (EWIS).
AFE trained staff will attend your site with an approved Portable Digital Speech Intelligibility Meter, and provide you with written results.

COMMISSIONING - AS1670.4 - Sound Systems for Emergency Purposes
Australian Standards requirements as per Section 4.3.6 Intelligibility:
- At all places within the zone where ambient noise figures are less than 85dB (A), the speech transmission index (STI) shall be >0.5.
- The rating of speech intelligibility shall be in accordance with the common intelligibility scale (CIS) method of AS 60849, measured in accordance with Appendix A.
- The average speech SPL shall not exceed 110dB (A).
A3 NUMBER OF MEASUREMENTS AND CALCULATION OF THE RESULT
The measurements shall be made at a sufficient number of representative points, which shall be detailed in the system specification, in each area of coverage.
The mean value of intelligibility, and its 95% confidence interval, over the whole area of coverage shall be calculated.
