Smoke Alarm Refurbishment ProgramAs contamination, dust, insects etc entering the smoke alarm sensing chamber is one of the major reasons for false alarms. (This problem is not unique to Brooks alarms but to every smoke alarm/detector manufacturer) Brooks management and design team investigated the costs benefits in refurbishing these alarms rather than disposing of them. As we are the major supplier of smoke alarms to public housing in Australia a refurbishment program was established with consultation with the manufacturer and Public Housing Departments to ensure ongoing performance of the smoke alarms and maximise their operational life, thus minimising the cost in maintaining the alarms. The refurbishment program consists of the contaminated smoke alarms being returned to Brooks where they are cleaned, recalibrated and retested to meet the manufacturer's specifications. The alarms are then returned to be placed back into service. This service is now available to maintenance contractors and property owners of Budget Accommodation, Hostels, Residential Unit Complexes or any Property fitted with smoke alarms.
